To provide support and affirmation to birth parents, AOCM awards scholarships to applicants who have chosen adoption and wish to pursue secondary and higher education during the upcoming academic year.
Eligible applicants are:
- Birth parents who have finalized an adoption plan.
- Permanent residents of Minnesota.
How to apply:
Print and complete the AOCM Scholarship Application and provide an essay of one or two pages addressing two areas: First, why do you believe adoption is important? (How adoption has impact your life?) Second, describe your plans for the future. Please mail the completed materials to: Scholarship Committee, Adoption Option Council of Minnesota, P.O. Box 75, Elk River, MN 55330.
The deadline to submit an application is March 31.
The maximum scholarship is $1,500 during the academic school year. Scholarships are awarded one-time only. Funds must be used during the current academic year. Scholarships will be awarded based on number of applicants and will be judged on content of essay. Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than May 1.
The scholarship recipient must inform the school she is attending to notify the AOCM office via letter of enrollment status before any scholarship will be paid.
No funds can be used for housing or any other incurred expenses. If a lesser amount (less than $1,500) covers all tuition and fees required for the student chosen, the lesser amount will be awarded. The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the school on behalf of the recipient.
